In recent years, it’s been pretty obvious that “blogging” (Web + Log = Blog)has simply taken over the internet.

Early blogs were first used by creative (bored?) indivuals, and larger news companies. http://info.cern.ch/ was one of the earliest blogs, followed by NCSA’s “Whats New” and also NetScapes “Whats New” blog. After this point the blogging scene exploded.

What exactly is blogging? Many consider blogging in it’s truest form a type of internet diary. In it’s most pure and basic form its simply a single, scrolling webpages with a few links on the side, and an archive table, and larger, prominent updates in the center of the pages. Users usually post small excerpts about daily life, recent events, or news.

Creative writers often attract groups of people, who will pursue and follow that blog, often posting comments on updates. Some writers write outrageous, offensive things that also attract readers. Some people write about personal experiences, and some just flat out write whatever they want!

RSS, (really simple syndication) also started directly because of blogs. Rather than visit an indivual site over and over again to read the updates and posts, coders started using xml to enable these updates to be available anywhere in the world. In response, RSS has created a whole new chapter in the SEO world, all because of blogging.

Almost everything that has advantages have disadvantages but when the advantages of a particular thing out weighs the disadvantages then it becomes insignificant, this is why I will not be discussing the disadvantages of a blog, because honestly I feel there is none. Well, except that the regular fresh content a blog requires can always make you feel on edge.
The advantages of a blog cannot be over-emphasized. The biggest advantage I see is that blogs give people, everyone alike, rich or poor an equal chance to be on the online world and write freely about their opinions, feelings and thoughts on different topics and subjects and actually have people worldwide

LONDON – A British scientist says she is Belle de Jour, the anonymous blogger whose accounts of life as a call girl were turned into books and a TV series.

Brooke Magnanti was quoted by the Sunday Times as saying she decided to reveal her secret because she was afraid an ex-boyfriend would expose her.

Magnanti, 34, is a child health researcher at the University of Bristol in western England. She told the newspaper she turned to the sex trade in 2003 while finishing her Ph.D. and worked as an escort for more than a year.

She blogged about the experience in the guise of Belle de Jour, a legal secretary who moonlights as a sex worker.

The blog formed the basis of three books and the British TV series “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” shown on Showtime in the United States.

Debate swirled about whether the anonymous author was real or fictional, and Belle de Jour was accused by some of glamorizing prostitution.

Magnanti said on her blog Sunday she was relieved “to be able to defend what my experience of sex work is like to all the skeptics and doubters.”

Magnanti said her scientific colleagues had been “amazingly kind and supportive” about the news. The university said her past was not relevant to her current job.

Her publisher, Orion, said in a statement that it was “a courageous decision for Belle de Jour to come forward with her true identity and we support her decision to do so.”

Keep Your Plugins Hidden
One of the great things about using WordPress is the plugins. While they greatly increase your blogs capabilities, they too contain certain bugs and vulnerabilities that are exploited by hackers. So be sure to keep them updated also.
It is easy for anyone to see what type of plugins you are using by visiting the wp-content/plugins folder. To keep potential intruders from finding out the plugins that you use, create an empty ‘index.html’ file and place it in your plugins folder
Its also a good idea to check your plugin folder and make sure the plugins there are the ones you want. Some hacker, once they get into your files upload their own plugin. So if you see something that you are not familiar with, delete it.

Here is a Free WP plugin that keeps track of the attempts to login to your site. Many hackers use brute force to try and get your password. Your most sensitive Wordpress information is stored in the /wp-admin/ folder. By default, WordPress leaves that folder open, so people can access these files to make changes if they know what they are doing.
To secure this folder:
Place an .htaccess file inside the /wp-admin/ folder to block the access to all IP addresses, except yours.
Here is the code you need to put in the .htaccess file:

This requires a bit more knowledge of the inner workings of WP on your part, so don’t mess with it unless you know what you are doing.

Browse your theme files
Log into your WordPress control panel, go to the theme editor, and look inside your theme files. See if there are any lines of code that are not supposed to be there, or that contain a PHP code that you don’t recognize.

Check your database tables
Some hackers upload fake images to your “Uploads” folder and activate them with a plugin call. To detect this you need to open PHPMyAdmin, browse the “wp-options” table, and edit the “active_plugins” record.
On that record you will see a list of all the plugins that active on your blog. Delete any that seem unusual or that you aren’t using

Browse your site files through FTP
Log into your FTP account and browse through the folders on your site. You are looking for any files that have a strange name or that look suspicious. If you have another WordPress blog installed on another site, compare the structure of the files to make sure they match up.

Tip to avoid a heart attack: Remember: Backup, backup, backup, before you star messing with anything!

Automatic Blog WordPress Plugin is the topic of this article. Now that I’ve used it for several months, I’d like to share my experience here as it may be helpful to other Internet Marketers who use WordPress Blogs and bloggers in general who are looking for ways to automate their blog posting.

I own several domain hosted WordPress blogs. My greatest challenge was posting to my blogs on a recurrent basis. Since these blogs are in several niches, I typically researched the current trends in that particular niche, took notes, wrote a brief article about a new slant on the niche and posted to my blogs. Obviously this is time consuming and tedious. Especially if you have to do it for multiple blogs.

Then I experimented with RSS feeds. RSS worked well, except that the feeds only provided partial paragraphs of information. For my visitors to read the entire post, they had to click on the hyperlink. That defeated my purpose of trying to make my blogs “sticky” by providing diverse, quality content.

Besides, the fact that good RSS software tended to be cost prohibitive.

Then I got a Tweet from a friend Nikola about a new product called Automatic Blog. Nick went on to explain that the advantage of Automatic Blog was that it pulled full articles (300 words) from Articlesbase.com article directory directly into any domain hosted WordPress blog, and that once set up, it did this automatically each and every day.

Furthermore I could select from over 300 categories in the article directory and literally “cherry-pick” the sorts of articles I wanted to import.

I’ll just share the results from using Automatic Blog on one of my blogs.

First, I was able to immediately plug the areas that were lacking on my blog. You know those topical areas that you know you should post to, but you just never get around to it. Let me be more specific. Topic of my blog is Internet Marketing. I had originally planned to develop page on Free Traffic, Sales, SEO, PPC, Site Design, etc. Prior to using Automatic Blog, I’d only posted content into one category because I just didn’t have time to write 20 articles.

Within a couple of days of field testing Automatic Blog I posted 10 highly relevant, targeted content articles to my blog.

Now I’m able to meet the needs of my blog visitors and subscribers, by providing a variety of articles that gave advice and solutions to their problems.In the past it would have taken me several days to write 10 articles from scratch.

Automatic Blog literally saves me hours of research, writing and posting. I know there are similar tools on the market, but none of them pulls full articles like Automatic Blog.

I have already addressed the question of website vs. blog in another article, but is any blog suitable for building your coaching business? I’m going to explain here what the basic differences of the major blog software options available and give you my perspective on what I believe to be the best option and why.

LiveJournal: This is where I posted my first blog which was more like an online journal for me. There is a cost to use and host at LiveJournal. Customization is limited and complicated for the average user. The addition of simple programming for implementing marketing strategies is also limited and complicated. I suppose it serves a purpose in the social networking but I don’t consider it a strong choice for business use.

Typepad: This was my next stop as I learned the benefits of blogging for my business. I actually liked this blogging software, but there are some of the same limitations with Typepad as with LiveJournal. There is a monthly fee for hosting and using the Typepad blog. Customization is a little easier with Typepad but still very limited. They make nice use of widgets that the blogger can add to enhance what the blog “does” in terms of marketability and monetization.

Blogger: this is easy blog software to use. While I have an account / profile there I don’t actively post in a blog there. Apparently Google, who owns Blogger, does allow user to post advertising (which is important to the monetization of your blog). But Blogger, which is hosted and operated by Google, has a frequent planned & unplanned outages – downtime, which is extremely inconvenient if you’re trying to run a business. I am also told that it doesn’t take much to “exceed the bandwidth” and have too many visitors to your blog.

There are probably several more less popular options that because they are less well known there are limited resources for customization and upgraded programming to make your blog more “powerful” in terms of what it can do for your business.

In my opinion, and in the opinion of some of the most popular bloggers on the Internet – WordPress is by far the most developed software platform for blogging for business.

WordPress – WordPress is software which can be operated for a community hosted site at WordPresss.com or you can self-host on your own domain.

Here’s the biggest differences between the community or WordPress.com hosted blog software. At WordPress.com there is no software to install – just pick a free theme and start writing posts.

• does not allow ads – such as Google AdSense for the blogger’s account
• does not allow programming for lead capture forms
• adds links to other peoples blogs at the end of your posts instead of other relevant posts within your blog
• limited customization available – many free themes but no truly custom premium themes can be used.

IMHO – Self-hosted WordPress blogs are the ONLY way to go if your blog is a serious part of your overall marketing plan. At sites like MySmallBusinessWebsite.com, the blog installation is done for you, however you do need to customize it…but more on that in another article.

• the blogger has full control over customization of blog – much of it is simple for the average user to control with minimal explanation
• hundreds or possibly thousands of widgets and plug-ins have been and are being developed that are completely free to add to your blog
• tools are available for attracting traffic to the blog, capturing leads and engage in with visitors to your blog.
• the blogger can place ads on the blog with out worry of being shut down like other community hosted blog software.

Tips For Creating Autoblogs With Wordpress

Are you looking for ways that will help you in creating autoblogs with WordPress? You would have to have been living under a rock not to know that the ex-Big Brother winner is dying of cervical cancer and is expected to live for just a few more months.

The subject is clearly an emotional one for many of our readers, so much so that it was only after great consideration that I decided to write this blog.

This is the kind of comment we have been receiving from readers:

“I’m finding it quite sickening now and it’s getting past a joke with Jade Goody and her cancer. I feel extremely sorry for her and can’t begin to imagine what she is going through. But to broadcast her health and go on about how she is going to die is more than disturbing… Things like this should be personal and dealt with in a professional manner, away from the public eye.”

It seems common sense doesn’t it? I don’t think even the most hardened of celebrity websites would disagree that Jade deserves to die in peace. Certainly the tabloids which so famously came down against her over the Shilpa Shetty race row are now immovable in their support for Jade.

The dilemma for media outlets is that Jade and her PR Max Clifford are going out of their way to attract publicity. Of course even if they weren’t doing this the media would still report on the story, but would it be on the front page of most newspapers every day? No.

The Clifford-Goody camp is strategically feeding the media on a daily basis to ensure maximum and prolonged exposure.

On Sunday it was announced that Jade’s cancer was terminal; on Monday it was announced Jade was getting married; Tuesday, Max Clifford appeared on Sky News saying Elton John had offered to host the wedding; on Wednesday Jade sold the rights of the wedding to OK! Magazine and Living TV. Today we are hearing that Girls Aloud will be performing at the ceremony.

Believe me, if Jade wanted privacy she would not have hired Max Clifford.

But there are two things that should be remembered during this:

• The number of women seeking cervical cancer screenings has increased by more than 20% since she first announced her illness.

• Jade is raising the money to ensure her children will be financially taken care of for the rest of their lives.

So while Jade and Max are still seeking publicity, they will undoubtedly get it. For the media this is groundbreaking territory and while they’re being invited in, they won’t walk away.

I feel very sorry for Jade, but other women are not so lucky, they cannot guarantee finacial security for there children. If i was dying of cancer i would just try to live my life as normal as possible, not broadcast it for all to know.Maybe out of the proceeds she could make a donation to cancer research!!!!

The fact that I've just read your blog and that she is able to make so much money from this shows how celebrity obsessed we are.

I am sorry that she is terminally ill, but what is she really? A gameshow contestant with a big mouth.

It leaves me feeling uneasy.

I think it is terrible that Jade is going through such a traumatic ordeal and i wish her all the best with her wedding, and if she feels that this is going to financially secure a future for her children, then all the best to her. I also think that it is important that she is doing this in the public eye, as she has shown the perils of the disease to help motivate younger people to get reguarly checked to hopefully limit any potential suffering.

Good for her – she has a last chance to ensure that her children are secure for the rest of their lives – who wouldn't take it.

If dying in public, gives her the money to secure her boys future, then I have to respect Jade.

BUT what arrangements has she made for the bringing up of these beautiful boys? Her husband to be is nothing more than a kid himself, and should never be allowed custody of these boys.

All the money in the world, wont give them what they are entitled to, a normal boyhood, with a mum to share it with, to admonish, to praise and to laugh with, and I hope, therefore, that she has plans in place for their upbringing, as well as their security.

ANY MONEY … IM SURE JAKE WILL MAKE MONEY OUT OF SELLING LIFE WITHOUT JADE …

I think she has been extremely brave during the whole thing. If you don't think it's right what she's doing don't watch it. It is her choice to pulicise her health,marriage, etc. I think she has been a fantastic role model and most importnantly she is making sure her kids will be alright when she's gone.

Am I on my own in thinking it's not even news worthy at all? She is referred to as “A Star” in certain news articles, but is nothing more then a “Celeb” created by media attention for being utterly ignorant and stupid. And as mentioned in your article,m it is sad that is happening to her, however, does it need this “Bandwagon” attention?

I am afraid, that after having her wedding televised, the next thing will be a televised funeral. This really is Reality TV gone mad.
